Curriculum
All programs at MCNS use The
Creative Curriculum as a guide to developing developmentally
appropriate lesson plans for both toddles and preschoolers. It rests on
a firm foundation of research and responds to new requirements
addressing academic content while keeping a play based philosophy.
The curriculum helps guide our teachers in their planning from
all areas of the classroom from child development to individual learning
centers in the room.

Each
child has a unique blend of physical, social, emotional and intellectual
needs and abilities. Therefore, each day we offer a wide range of
activities that helps develop these different aspects of your child. We
place a particular emphasis on social development. We get to know each
child and help him or her to develop a positive self-image, and to feel
competent and independent. The range of regular activities includes Circle
Time, Storytelling, Music, Art, Block Building, Puzzles, Playground Time
and dramatic Play. We often have week long units where we focus on certain
subject areas: Food, Farms, Winter, Plants, Bugs, Dinosaurs, Tools, the
Senses, Space, the Body, etc. Of course, routines and rituals such as
putting on coats, washing hands, lining up and cleaning up, play an
important role in a child's development. MCNS also offers extra enrichment
programs that vary year to year. In the past we've had regular visits from
music teachers, nature specialists, dentists, storytellers, yoga teachers,
movement instructors, and the fire department.
Our Staff
In all of our programs, experienced and highly qualified early childhood
professionals head up each classroom. We attract a friendly, talented and
very loyal group of teachers, who are not only deeply interested in the
growth and development of children but in the growth and development of
parents as well. The nursery school director is assisted by both an Office
Manager at MCNS and an Assistant Director at MCNS Toddler Center.
