A Parent Cooperative:
Children are not the only participants in our school's philosophy and functioning: you are, too. MCNS is a non-profit parent cooperative overseen by a board of parent volunteers. This and our parent participation program are our most unique features and distinguish us from other local nursery schools.

The parent participation program offers parents a very special opportunity to help out in the classroom about once a month. Not only do you get to experience your own child in a structured group setting, but you get to share time with your child's peers and teachers as well. Plus, your child receives the special assurance that his or her learning experience is a family affair. Serving in the classroom is a wonderful way to learn about children in general - and a very important way to be involved in your own child's education from the very beginning. This participation can be shared between parents, grandparents, caregivers, and special loved ones. Though it is not mandatory to participate in the classroom, nearly all of our parents do. They've found the experience to be extremely rewarding.

  Philosophy:
This is the philosophy behind all of our programs. Your child is a unique individual, who is learning and developing at his or her own rate. We embrace that, and nurture that. We work with each child to develop and improve self-esteem as well as communication and socialization skills. Our professional staff provides a safe and fun environment that encourages a child's natural curiosity. At MCNS, your child can explore, create, and experiment freely.
  Mission Statement:
The nursery school is responsible for helping preschool children develop a sense of self-esteem, and learn to communicate with peers and adults in a safe, caring, and challenging environment using play as a vehicle for learning.

Our Organization:
The director is responsible for the educational program at the nursery school. The director and the professional staff meet frequently for planning sessions and evaluations. The Board of Directors, which is an elected group of nursery school parents, is responsible for the overall functioning of the school. It is this board that selects and carries out the various fund raising events and formulates school policy. The Board is also responsible for setting tuition, salaries and approving any major expenditures.
